Under the direction of the Executive Director and Operations, the Safety Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all safety functions including training, job observations, accident prevention, loss control, audits, regulatory compliance with State and Federal regulations and adherence to company policies.  The Supervisor is instrumental in providing technical safety and support, and coordinating effective training programs in an effort to reduce risk and improve overall safety performance.   


  • Provide new employee orientation on use of equipment, lifts, wheelchairs, tie-downs and other related equipment.

  • Serve as coordinator of Organization’s Safety Committee; develop initiatives to measure and reduce at-risk driving behaviors.

  • Develop and maintain safety training programs for use in new employee orientation and ongoing training for staff.

  • Administer 19-A road exams/written tests, fingerprinting and annual defensive driving reviews.

  • Evaluate and monitor safety records of agency staff and make recommendations for training to address problems.

  • Provide agency representation at accident scenes.

  • Inspect damage to vehicles and assist in preparation of necessary reports on damage; follow up with insurance companies.

  • Represent organization on applicable safety committees outside the agency.

  • Monitor general condition of vehicles and follow-up on corrective actions necessary to ensure a safe fleet

  • Document and counsel drivers for unsafe behaviors or using improper procedures.  Provide retraining as necessary.

  • Perform audits and inspections and review investigation reports to ensure that corrective actions will eliminate recurrence and unsafe acts/conditions.


  • Perform any and all duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Director of Operations that are consistent with this job description.


  • Certified 19-A examiner

  • Certified to conduct defensive driving courses and road tests for Commercial Driver’s License.  Minimum CDL-B P.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.

  • Ability to appropriately interact with employees of all levels including drivers and senior management, customers, clients and the general public.

  • Ability to effectively train staff and work in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Word and Excel.


  • Some college and minimum of 3 years in safety management experience in a passenger paratransit environment.
